One of the things I hear from Physical Therapy and Athletic Training professionalsĀ over and over is:
āI get pretty good results⦠but I feel like Iām still missing something.ā
Not because they arenāt skilled.
Not because they havenāt taken enough courses.
But because pretty good results mean that there are outliers, patients and athletes who they feel should get better, but the treatments don't seem to stick or have the same effect on them as the other patients. These are the clients that leave them wondering why and keep them up at night searching for answers or questioning our clinical reasoning.
That feeling of āmissing somethingā also prevents them from having the confidence toĀ guarantee resultsĀ for their clients.
This feeling also has them constantly thinking:
Is it possible to get even better outcomes?Ā Could my patients improve faster?
The feeling like they are missing something or feeling like better outcomes are possible causes clinicians to be stuck in a continuing education loop, repeating these FOUR common mistakes:
1ļøā£ Learning more and more techniques for treatment:ā£
CE courses give us more tools, but outcomes stay mediocre at best, taking weeks or months. Maybe the issue isnāt the techniques, itās the framework weāre working in.
2ļøā£ Chasing biomechanics and movement dysfunction:ā£
Yes, movement matters, but the body chooses patterns for survival. Dysfunction isnāt random, itās the result of deeply embedded neurological patterns to protect the organs and organism.ā£
3ļøā£ Thinking time, the patient, or pain is the problem:ā£
Yes, healing takes time. Yes, patients can be non-compliant. Yes, pain can centralize. But letās be real... these are often excuses. Better results are possible; we just lack the right assessment framework.ā£
4ļøā£ Chasing symptoms and pain session after session:ā£
Even when we know we shouldnāt, we still do it. With so many treatment options, itās hard not to. But without a clear assessment sequence, weāre just guessing and frustrating both ourselves and our patients.ā£
Sound familiar? Youāre not alone. These mistakes, these patterns keep even great clinicians stuck.ā£Ā
Ā
The Missing Link That Most Professionals Were Never Taught
Most orthopedic education focuses almost entirely on the musculoskeletal system.
But the body doesnāt work that way.
TheĀ nervous system and visceral organs have priority over movement.
When the body is protecting these systems, it often shows up as:
⢠persistent joint restrictions
⢠altered motor control
⢠recurring injuries
⢠chronic pain patterns
Until you identify what the body is protecting⦠You will keep chasing symptoms.
Most professionals overlook the influence of the viscera and nervous system on pain and function. They also struggle to trust the bodyās wisdom to guide treatment, ultimately guessing where to start.ā£
When you know where to start by listening to the body, you will getĀ fast results that stick using ANY tool or treatment approach you like:Ā
Manual therapy.
Massage.
Dry needling.
Cupping.
Exercise.
Pilates.
Neurology.
IASTM.
Tape.
The tool isnāt the issue.
The starting point is.
Over the past several years, Iāve helped thousands of clinicians break free from this cycle by makingĀ ONE change to their assessment.
Theyāve gone from feeling stuck and frustrated⦠to feeling confident they can help almost anyone, even complex cases. Without needing to learn another treatment system.
Now itās your turn.

Hey! Iām Anna.
Iām so glad you landed here today! Iām an athletic trainer, sports healthcare and movement educator, anatomy nerd, podcaster, fun aunty, and constant learner based in San Diego, California.
I love lounging in a hammock with a good book (or for a nap), any type of chips and dip, Topo Chico lime, Olipop, or sparkling water, staying active, and asking good questions.
You can usually find me on a plane headed to take care of one of my professional athletes, teaching physical therapists (PTs) and athletic trainers (ATs) in my signature course the LTAP⢠Level 1, taking care of my house plants, hanging at the beach, or being a volunteer deckhand with Gone Whale Watching (the BEST whale watching company in Southern California, BTW) and trying to live out my wildlife photography dreams.
In my business, MovementREV, LLC, I provide private consulting to professional athletes for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimization. I also teach physical therapists and athletic trainers how to get better outcomes, even for complex cases, using my unique methodology combining an osteopathic approach with a traditional orthopedic approach for assessment and treatment (manual and exercise-based) for injuries, pain, and performance.
This approach considers the whole organism- including the viscera and the nervous system, not just the musculoskeletal system and the biomechanics. Better outcomes mean fewer treatment sessions needed, less time spent repeating techniques, and the confidence to guarantee results for their patients and know when there are red flags.Ā
